Recent posts have mentioned the animosity these self appointed judges have for the offroad community I think its only fair we should have a little fun at their expense (my thanks to the Germans.)

Now then now then. This looks like it's staged to me. The joggers are nearly all in the babe class, and the cyclists look normal without a trace of lycra. In the UK, those "self-appointed judges" would have the film makers in court and sent down for life for, er, "making fun of a rambler" or some such.

Seriously, if Germany have anything like the H&S culture we have in the UK, I bet they wouldn't dare pull a stunt like that on unsuspecting passers-by. I'm pretty sure the "victims" will have been warned, made to sign the appropriate forms and possibly paid as well.

It does give one ideas, though...

How much does a tanker full of acid cost I wonder...

Sulphuric, lysergic is illegal and we're law abiding citizens, other than dissolving ramblers in baths of acid.

Well, divided between the regulars on this group, not very much. I'd chip in a tenner, as long as the middle-class tossers who gave my farmer mate so much grief were in the first few dozen.

Incidentally, and moving OT just a tad, I wonder how much of the rambler/4x4 antipathy is in fact good old class prejudice under another name? Most of the walkers I meet (and me when I am walking IYSWIM) are pretty middle-class folk. A lot of 4x4 enthusiasts, on the other hand, are either good ol' working class boys, or are driving vehicles which look old and/or well-used, and therefore appear to be - how shall I say this - NQTD dear. Since it is now illegal to look down on the working class* as a group, perhaps the anti-4x4 lobby are just pursuing old prejudices under a new environ-mentalist justification.

Just a thort.

Hm funny, but what would happen if some ramblers did this to a green lane for unsuspecting Land Rover's who would be laughing then, please don't think I disapprove of the green laning thing far from it but it just occurred to me when I watched it ;-)) had to chuckle though with the cyclists.

Rich

What, like stretching wire across a lane at head height to catch motorcyclists, scattering nails welded into 3D star shapes, or laying a police stinger-style device in a puddle you mean? All been found and documented on the beeb website (for the wire) and the nails/stinger in the GLASS magazine. No culprits known though, most likely either rabid antis or landowners.

Also near here there was a 3 foot wide, 3 foot deep trench dug across a lane by a landowner, he was made to fill it in eventually. So certainly not an original idea, the only original thing about the video was that it was aimed at the walkers and not the 4x4 users for a change!

Ahhh, but did the film makers use any 4x4's to get to this spot and carry their equipment? hehehe

Oh my god I cant honestly believe people would do what you describe, what is the world coming to :-((((

Rich

On a pinz mailing list I'm on I mentioned these, a welsh land-owner and keen off-roader said such things have been going on for over 15 years, so it's not that recent a development it seems.

and not restricted to offroad either there was a prosecution a while back someone was royally pissed off by the amount of fast bike traffic passing so to add interest was dropping derv at strategic places on the Cat and Fiddle

Derek

The depths to which some will sink to try and win a petty argument is pretty amazing, sometimes I think we need to thin the herd a little.

Interesting. I'd have said it was more a case of the middle and upper classes driving Land-Rovers (you know, Range Rovers and all that). Certainly that's what *I* think when I see one...

Stuart

Most of the people I've met while off-roading are bloody computer nerds like me! Certainly those who run the clubs seem to be largely nerds, not 100% sure why that is. Mind you I've spent most of my adult life in the sarth of england. On my only organised trip to wales I'll ever do (too many vehicles) it was a bit different, a fair few knuckle draggers with heavy right feet on that one.

On or around Sun, 26 Nov 2006 11:04:09 -0000, "Richard Brookman" enlightened us thusly:

It's a good stunt though.

Yes, but my point was that the LRs people see actually *doing* the off-road thing are likely to be either scruffy old things (owned by poor people, obviously) or tricked-up and battered (typical working-class macho male stuff, obviously). If a few upper-middle-class folk started doing proper offroading in their pristine RRSs and D3s, the image might be different, but to me those seem to be the people who keep them safely on tarmac.
