Perplexed again - one for the brake/clutch masters please

Hi,

Ok, so looking forward to nice Sunday of offroading in v8 series 1, tinkering around last night, noticed a slight drip of fluid from the clutch slave cylinder, Convinced its rainwater, but anyway I pumped the pedal a few times to see if it was leaking - it seems not!

However, if I pumped the pedal quickly, I could hear air at the top of the stroke, then after a while the pedal gradually started to have less travel until eventually it was rock solid, so I undid the bleed valve on the slave, a small amount of fluid came out under reasonable pressure, the pedal came back, so I started the pumping motions again, depending on how long and how much it seems that either it locks solid as above or the biting point just moves right to the top until eventual total failure of a biting point.

But slow pumps result in a clutch that works ok all the time.

Any Ideas - or is it a replace master and slave?

and finally - please - what type of gearbox do I have, my slave cylinder sits to the driverside and connects to the bell housing with a long shaft - is this series 1 or 2?

Thanks

Rog

Addition - The fluid did occasionaly rise and fall in the reervoir but never lost any.
