Still a Land Rover novice, so don't know that much about Land Rovers, but was told by a mechainc today that, because of the smoke coming from my Land Rover, he thinks I have a piston ring gone, can some one tell me the symptons please.

And if any one lives near Newcastle/Northumberland, It would be useful if some one was able to take a look at the Land Rover, and say weather they think it is the piston rings, and just to give us a general idea of any thing that might be wrong with the engine. Of course, this would be repayed by the odd beer or two.
