Removing series bulkhead, doors, wings and front panel in one go.

Hi, I'm in the process of replacing the chassis on a series III. Is it possible to keep the front end of the vehicle together so that I can then hoist out the engine and gearbox and then replace the front end? Thanks, Jon

Just visualising it - It is probably possible. I would remove the bonnet and radiator, as the wings are not all that strong unsupported, and you risk distorting them. I would expect you would find it easier to remove the steering column, box and support bracket with the bulkhead and its similar bracket on the other side. I assume you will have a hoist or crane - and you need to think about how high you need to lift the assembly to clear the engine.

I would also be inclined to remove the doors separately - not a big job, and make it a lot easier I would have thought, and similarly for the windscreen (easy to break glass). JD

If you don't have a hand barn or garage, hire a lifting frame thingy from HSS Lift & Shit or similar - then you can lift the whole body off, swap over the engine & box and axles and then plonk it back on! Seriously.

In one of the old landy mags they had an article about doing this. They put a full length roof rack on and lifted the whole body off as one with a fork lift on the roof rack, then rolled the new chassis under and lowered it back on!

I dont think that the wings on my landy would support the front panel and bonnet though.

As other people have said - Removing the wings and front panel isnt a hard job anyway

OK, I'll strip it down. Thanks for the advice!
