Rimmer bros ss exhaust

Apr 23, 2004 13 Replies

I have a stainless steel Rimmer bros exhaust on my 90. Bought in 2001 with a 'lifetime' warranty. Apart from the silencer (which is still very shiny) the rest of it is very rusty. I phoned them up today and they said about the tubing, as its harder to work with, it has a lower chromium content so discolourisation is normal. I replied thats its not just discoloured but rusty. They said its ok unless it perforates in which case they will send it back to the maker. Question: Has anyone else got the same system? If so what is it like? Or anyone had any dealings with them ? Thanks Richard

Same system on a 110 V8, boxes shiny after 8 years, pipes rusty but not perforated. had a front box replaced twice in quick succession under warranty due to pulled spot welds, no problems. Just got to convince them that they need to send the new bit before you send them the old one back as you need the vehicle on the road. Badger.

You just KNOW he'd do it too! I got a system from them and it too looked rusty after a while, but I was far too busy listening to it to care!

...and 'er indoors still wants a little chat with you (she's already sorted Thomlinson out, you're next on her list...) :-)

Stick a magnet to it. If it sticks or feels like it might like to - it's low grade crap. My JE exhaust doesn't entertain the idea of magnets, but the pipes *look* different to the boxes. I think it's the nature of the shape, and the fact that most of what I see as brown rust is in fact ... er.. mud ;-)

...and we won't ask Neil about Rimmer catalysts will we.....*warning*

whats your opinion of rimmer cats Neil? (well, you mentioned it first!!) Richard

Put a full Rimmer sports system on my 90 V8 five years ago. Pipes are made from different s/s to boxes. My pipes never rusted, but were not as shiny as boxes. Over 5 years they were covered in mud, clay, peat and sea water and bounced off many large rockes. Were still perfect at the end of it.

I have a set in my garage. In bits.

Do they come with tubular manifolds? Or just the exhaust bit?

Lee

mine was the whole system, tubular manifolds (that fitted eventually!), manifold fixing kit, exxhaust bit and brackets Richard

Mine didn't have manifolds - but it is a pretty good idea - I may go have a chat with them at Billing :-)

Makes sense there should be quite a bit of demand for them and if it's an orders thing then I may be poor enough to afford one by then rather than just plain skint :-)

I hereby call upon the posters and lurkers of a.f.l to witness that it was Lee_D who suggested this, and therefore it is he and no other who shall be brought before the one known as Charlotte to account for his crime.
