RR Braking Problem

1995 RR (P38A) Hse 4.6 - 106000 miles. Recently begun to notice foot braking just after start-up is virtually non-existent. Vehicle is always put into reverse, down a slight incline to carry out a 3 point turn, before continuing on journey. Is braking system powered through engine assistance, and could this be the root of the problem? Brakes soon work in a reasonable manner but I believe could be better.

Sounds like a slow ABS pump. Or a break somewhere in the system that takes awhile for the ABS pump to fully charge the system.

The ABS brakes rely on an electric pump to maintain pressure. This is stored in an accumulator - the almost spherical object visible above the shock absorber on the driver's side. They do "wear out" and need to be replaced. I have this happening occasionally and some flashes from the ABS warning lamp and the car is going in on Friday for a new accumulator.
