SIIId - no power

With a lump hammer in his hand out intrepid hero, threw caution to the wind, "You have nothing to loose," he told himself firmly, and reached out for his Land Rover Bible. He stood up and with a resolve and passion he had never known before he had aquired his "beloved", he strode out of the house into the wild smog filled streets of Lambeth, in search of some patience, for he would need plenty of it in the next few weeks/months/years to come.

By the way you need a name for your Land Rover.

i suspect one the rear propshaft UJs has gone, or one of the halfshafts in rear axle has snapped .

if youd have put the landrover into 4WD it [push yellow knob down ] may have driven itself on the front axle, so long as the front hubs are engaged if it has freewheeling hubs fitted , you could have driven home and then got the rear propshaft joint or halfshaft replaced .

of course this may not be youre problem but its sure sounds like it may be the rear prop that has lost contact with back of gearbox .

yep i think thats about it. . .got it home with 4wd engaged. time to begin the learning curve. remember this is my first auto ever, for teh past eleven years ive been repairing fixed wheel bicycles. they are damn easy with only about three things to go wrong. . .

frame broken; umm. . . replace handlebar tape; errr. . . pump up tyres. . .

in fact if anyone wants to know about riding fixed, im your man!!!

name, yep she has one already. shes called christine after my mum who died in august. her very last words to me were her agreeing to come for a ride in teh land rover i was planning to buy. mum actively supported me in buying a landy, dont know why but she really liked the idea.

mum had become agrophobic these past years, a function of her schizophrenia so the fact that she agreed (third time of asking that summer afternoon) that shed come for a drive was a bloody miracle. as we parted she was waving and smiling, a happy parting that concluded the best afternoon wed spent together in twenty years. doesnt get much better than that i guess.

'christine' is a chip off the old block! she smokes like a demon and is a bloody pain in the neck. . . and i love her!!!

tks for listening teddave

Sorry to hear about your Mum. My Dad died about six years ago, two days after Christmas. He never actually owned a Land Rover, but the nearest thing to it was an Sdi with a V8 engine. He would have absolutely loved going to the Land Rover Shows and I have no doubt in my mind that if he were alive today, he would have been a Series 3 owner. The Discovery Bruce has christened "The Skip", the Range Rover is known as "Dad's Car", and the Series 3 is "No Lid" as we are going to take the hard top off in the summer and have a canvas one instead

providing 'christine' survives my ministrations ill pop the roof in the summer. truth be told that she gets called 'the tractor' more often as not, as she sounds like. . . well its obvious really! so her proper name is christine, but really shes just 'the tractor'.

drove home last night in teh rain, windscreen steaming up, handling very odd as i was in 4WD but with no rear drive (broken half shaft). jeez how can two miles of pottering in town seem like so far. . .and i know all the back roads!

youre neighbours must just love you guys. . .

funny when i was in sheffield the other week there were little outcrops of old landy's in teh most unlikely of neighbourhoods (meersbrook anyone?)
