Sluggish 90 300 TDi

Oct 20, 2008 3 Replies

I have a 1998 Defender 90 CSW 300TDi, 84,000 miles.

It is quite sluggish, it never used to be like this. The engine sounds rough when starting, like a miss fire, but when warm, it sounds fine. Can hear the turbo spin up, and the vehicle does accelerate when the turbo spins. EGR valve has been removed, so it isn't a sticking EGR valve. No air in fuel line, have fitted new air filter, fuel filter, changed oil and oil filter.

Any ideas?

Most likely to be turbo pipes knackered..

The pipe gets soft, and when its under pressure it collapses and does not send the power to the engine.

Have a feel, the pipes should be fairly solid.

If youre careful, ie don't wear a tie, you can hold the pipe and manually rev the engine with the throttle cable and feel if the pipe is giving.

A Landrover owner wearing a tie! Have you gone mad?
