Stainless steel fuel tank

Feb 17, 2008 4 Replies

My petrol tank on my series 3 has started to leak, it seems to be due to corrosion around the seams. I have decided to replace the tank with a new one but was wondering if anyone makes a stainless steel tank, done a bit of searching on the internet but didn't find anything. If I can't get a stainless tank I think I will treat the inside of a new mild steel one with some sort of sealer, anyone got any recomendations on what product to use?

Regards Liam

I wouldn't bother coating them on the inside, I used to paint them well and then wax them, on the outside and occasionally check for damage after offroading and touch up again with wax (Tectyl, made by Valvoline). They will then last for years, even the el cheapo pattern ones.

Liam Hi,

you can have a look at

They have an epoxy type inside sealer that can even repair rusted fuel tanks with tiny holes on them.
