Steering woes.

Hi,



Last week I changed the tracking rods and ends on my '94 Disco and whilst I was at it I changed the steering damper. I had the tracking set at my local tyre place.



The problem I have (similiar to another recent post in here) seems to occur at ~60mph on curves and when I hit a bump, it causes the steering wheel to shakes side to side (sounds like it knocking somewhere), slowing down slightly stops the shake.



Otherwise the steering is good.



I am guessing the same solutions to the similar post applies here?

Since it was OK before the maintenance work I guess I can rule out some of the mentioned problems. Is it likely to be a faulty steering damper?



Any other suggestions for when I jack it up and have a good root around.

It'd be worth taking te steering damper off, and checking that its primed. Compress and extend it fully several times. If the resistance isn't even all the way through the stroke after priming then I'd send it back. Probably the most likeley fault given the circumstances I would think.

Your swivel preload is set to light, you will need a spring balance and a selection of shims to adjust this by reshimming the kingpins. If you have a Haynes manual it's all covered there, otherwise I can give you a more in depth procedure of how to set the correct load. Hope this helps, Fergus

You havent said whether the fault was there before the work was carried out if it wasnt then look at the bits that have made it happen :-)
