UKLandroverEvents - you did ask

A while ago people were wondering about ukLANDROVERevents.com and whether or not they were a bunch of cowboys (references to "Extreme Greenlaning" and suchlike)

Well, I went on one of their tours last weekend and would say that they aren't actually cowboys and appear to be pretty clued guys.

They had booked the appropriate number of spaces at a decent campsite for their drivers, scouted the lanes we were going to drive on about three days before we went and were equipped for most minor emergencies.

The lanes we were on were publically accessible areas and were taken at sensible speed but with enough variation to keep it interesting.

The routes we were on were challenging for a normal Landie of whatever description but quite doable assuming the driver had half a clue.

I queried them about "Extreme Greenlaning" and their answer was that it was a bad phrase which they are going to replace but was designed to scare off newbies and freelander drivers - the routes are still legit greenlanes but are harsh enough in terms of ground clearance and terrain that they don't want totally green drivers attempting them until they've got a bit more experience. They don't want Freelanders at all on the tougher ones as they will rip their undersides to shreds (This from experience).

They seem to quite responsible, keeping convoy sizes down to six cars with each convoy running a slightly different route in the Yorkshire dales and keeping group sizes down to four cars in the Lake District.

All in all, a damn good weekend but I've discovered that a) Technitop roof tents are a pig to collapse and need to be able to breathe and b) I should take aftersun with me when offroading in Summer.
