What hose is this? Pics...

Hi all.

This is on a 1995 Discovery 1 in the US. It has A/C and an auto trans. While changing the oil yesterday I noticed the rubber section of this hose is blistering on the top (can't really see the blister in the pic), is swelling, is very soft to squeeze and when squeezed produces nasty looking cracks in the rubber. What hose is this? I'm trying to locate the part and have been unsuccessful because I don't know what it is...

It is on the front LH (us driver's side) of the vehicle. After it exits the frame of the picture, it turns 90 degrees and travels to the front RH side of the vehicle where I haven't followed it further.

One last question -- if this hose is about to go belly up, what other hoses should I be looking at? The coolant hoses I can see look OK.

Thank ye kindly...

It looks like one of the autobox oil cooler pipes between gearbox and radiator.

So it carries transmission oil then? Are these difficult to replace?

Yes to the first, no to the second but it's messy and you will probably have to check the oil level after because you're certain to lose some ATF.

Oily got it right...atf cooler...replaced mine in 97 dicso with no problem. More of a pain if you don't have a lift.I ordered it from Rock Auto (online) and cost was less than half of LR

I see two trans cooler lines at britishpacific. Is it the longer one? Looks like since the longer one has a 90 in the rigid section.

I've never worked on the auto trans before. Where is the fill plug?

On my 'M' Reg V8 it's towards the rear of the engine bay, drivers side (uk) of the engine & has a red filler cap thingy.

Good luck & please do update with how you get on.

Oh duh. You just fill it through the dipstick tube then. *headdesk*

Thanks. I'm getting a price quote for all three hoses from britishpacific right now. Ordered from them once and got very fast communication as well as shipping. I think they are the largest LR parts supply close to NM.

That's right, you can normally buy ATF in plastic bottles with a tube attached which makes it easier to do just that. :-)
