Sounds like someone spent a lot of money on it. The only thing that would worry me is the lack of MOT - you'd definately want one of those before its worth three grand. If you're looking for a 110 CSW then it sounds good, any other 300TDi 110 CSW for that money is likely to have had a very hard life. I think the sellers right on the money if the inside of it isn't trashed, the outside is fairly straight, the miles on the drivetrain aren't over 100k and it gets a clean 12months MOT.

plenty on ebay and elsewhere with mot's but I wonder why would a dealer sell a £3k+ motor without a test certificate? maybe you should invest in a test before you get your wallet out. Derek ( not trying to buy at the moment curse you Ebay)

And check out insurance - some insurers will be ok as its an LR engine, some will class it as "Modified" and want an Enegineers report and all that kerfuffle.

No extra cost to swap it on to my 2a insurance but they do want an engineers report. This should not be a problem though as thy are all landrover parts and there has been no mounting mods I have decided to go for it subject to very good test drive and all paper work being present and correct my main reason being the chassis. Ones i have looked at around this price bracket were more pleasing to the eye but under inspection the chassis's have already been welded or will need welding soon and door frames and bulkhead have been crusty and they mostly dont have a tdi engine or r380 gearbox. To re chassis and tdi a basket case yourself would cost at least £3000 just for engine g box and chassis before you even get involved with every thing else that crops up. So all being well I will collect it in the morning, and it is booked in for a mot in the afternoon, taxed monday/tuesday and on the road.............. Watch this space

[1984 300 TDi]

since the engine capcity is the same, they won't find out by asking the usual questions.

however, they might be able to get you for not disclosing a modification, if they can prove that you knew it wasn't a standard fitment.
