fit a radiator muff to get engine running hotter in the cold .

i am not sure if the diesel at pumps has been thinned down for winter at all but if it has you may note lower mpg , although i think they use same diesel all year round now .

you are probably using heater and lights more now , so alternator will be pulling harder, using more fuel at same time .

Doesn't it have to have the same calorific value all year round ? They might add more magic anti-wax to it, but its still the same stuff AFAIK.

Wear lighter footwear, especially on your right foot.

This time of year you are using more accessories to make life bearable heater fan, heated rear screen and lights all will increase your fuel consumption just something you have to live with - not that its cost effective but an engine preheater will lessen the warm up time which is when your fuel consumption is at its highest or increasing your tyre pressure slighty say + 2psi helps but you risk lessening grip of course.
