2001 ES 300 - is this normal ?

Oct 05, 2003 4 Replies

I recently purchased a 2001 ES 300 w/ 18K miles on it. The car runs fine but when I start the engine in the mornings or after the car has been parked for a while, the engine revs up to 1500 RPM, for like 2 minutes.

I understand that when you start the engine when it's cold it needs to heat the engine thats why the high RPM but

1500 seems abnormal to me, I've seen other cars do 1100.

Is it just me or is this how it works.

Thanks, ~ck

I have a 2001 ES with 34000 on it and have never had that problem when it starts up.

Just curious... what did you pay for the car? (sorry I didn't answer your question).

I bought it used with 29k miles on it and paid $26.000 for it.

It can be normal to rev high during warm ups - depending on the outside temperature - so long as it doesn't stay at that RPM during regular driving.
