aftermarket ECU for 2002 ES300???

Send your letters to Lexus .. telling them .... that because your complaint has not and apparently cannot be rectified that ... you are putting the car up for sale and that you will not be buying any more Lexus.

Relying on lawyers and government will not get the car fixed. It takes a year or yearS to get things done thru lawyers and government and even then ... LEXUS is the only one possessing the hardware/software know-how to potentially deal with this problem.

Fix the problem yourself this weekend .... with a replacement vehicle. There! Done!

And how, Philip, does that address the safety issue in the cars presently on the road? Am I missing something? By now we've all gotten your point regarding Lexus and you affinity for lower tech, more basic transportation.

There are now, however, cars on the road with a problem, and I'm talking about addressing that problem. You're talking about getting even with Lexus. I agree you have a point, but it's other than the one I' m trying to address - that being safety.

Who says that the complaint has become a "safety issue?" Are there crashes on record that are wholly attributable to faulty FlyByWire crap? People have to bleed, break bones, or die for the NHTSA to do anything.

I suggest you save yourself ... forget about saving humanity. Sell the car if the drivability bothers you so much. That's really all you can do as an owner when the factory fails. My method is about an immediate, practical remedy that you can execute, not about getting even (ok, maybe just a pinch for all your trouble). Letting Lexus know about the sale of your car and why hits them where it counts (may not hurt for awhile) ... their cherished reputation which will cost them consternation if not customers. This drivability problem has become a complex technical issue that Lexus brought on themselves by not being more circumspect about the dubious need for more technology. The traditional throttle cable works just fine.

Regarding what to do with the existing vehicles... let Lexus come up with a replacement cable operated throttle body for those owners with this driveability complaint. Not a recall necessarily because not a majority of drivers are complaining ... as of yet. LOL It's real tough for the Japanese to admit defeat (lose face), but you are the ones who have to put up with the inferior system otherwise.

Back in the 1790's, Thomas Paine summed it all up when he counseled, "The more simple anything is, the less liable it is to be disordered, and the easier repaired when disordered." The problem is for a system to become simple requires infinite testing. A cable is pretty simple.

I own a 2000 ES 300, not a 2002 ES 300. But I had a 2002 ES 300 loaner for 4 days from the Lexus Dealer.

If I were going to be hit by a Freeway Monster like a Dodge Durango or a Ford Excursion from the side, I'd rather be in a 2002 ES 300 than a 2000 ES 300. The 2002 model door felt much heavier than the 2000.

The steering wheel of the 2002 model vibrated when I stepped on the brakes. But the brakes were very quiet. I guess you can't have everything with a Lexus.

Dim lights at your feet when you turn off the engine was a nice touch in the 2002 ES 300. The engine components are laid out in a more aesthetically pleasing manner compared to the 2000. Less visible wires/cables, etc. if I recall correctly. But what is that kludgy metal bar that extended across the far end of the engine compartment for?

The 2002 Gas Tank cap doesn't operate like that of the 2000 model. There actually were instructions in the glove compartment how to open and close the Gas Tank cap.

I was looking for the keyhole in the trunk of the 2002, and I didn't see one. The Lexus Dealer gave me a key with no fob, so I had to open the driver's side door to open the trunk each time :( Why did they remove the keyhole?

But I wouldn't buy a 2002 for the funny transmission it has.

We need a Lexus Reset button in a prominent place, like under the Lexus logo in the middle of the steering wheel.

That is a perception ... not much of a reality in terms of protecting you from such an impact. I recall how much attention Chrysler put into the sound of a "solid door" back in the '70's. ClaChank didn't cut it for a 4,500 lb sedan so ... a different locking mechanism and sound deadening in the door ... all to affect the perception of a solid door. BokClunk.

A vibrating pedal is the usual indication of warped brake rotors ... not a distinction between models.

A keyhole is practical but a redundancy in the "minds" of the Value Engineering people. LOL Corolla still has a key on the trunk. ;-)

For a moment, I thought the heavier door on the 2002 models was meant to handle the possible side-impact the car might incur as a result of the lag in acceleration while trying to make a left-turn against aggressive oncoming Freeway Monsters.

ALL OF THIS because the guy wants help with his ECU? You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Steve, Go to a group that is more helpful, I would suggest the Lexus owners group, of which I'm sure one exists. I know because I have been there, I just do not remember the address because at this point, as my RX-300 had been a very reliable vehicle ... and have not needed much help with it.

I perfer not to drive econo boxes, not because I need to prove anything, I JUST LIKE NICE CARS! If that means Guina pig to you phillip well then so be it, (I however doubt that is the case) I also have 2 Nissan Maximas one highly customized, the other bone stock, and they both have WAY over 100K on 'em, they run like clocks and I have found great info for them at maximas.org There are great aftermarket ECU's for Maximas, mainly for added performance, but they are not cheap! (usually in the 400 to 500 dollar range) As far as programming the ECU you have it can be done with a laptop and some interface equipment, but as stated, it is best left to the pros. Good Luck in your quest for a better ECU.

Wrong again, my little attention-starved friend. The only question asked in the original email was as follows: "Does anyone know of a company that manufactures aftermarket ECUs to replace the factory module on a 2002 ES300?"

The remainder of the details in the original post only provided support to that question. I did not ask for a discussion on why Lexus won't fix their ECU, I asked if there was an aftermarket ECU. It's not really rocket science, but you seemed to struggle with this context.
