Homelink doesn't learn code, RX300

Just bought a 2002 RX300. I can't reprogram the Homelink to open my Genie Excelerator garage door opener. My '99 Maxima programmed OK. The Lexus Homelink seems to reset when I press and hold the outer two buttons. I press the Learn/Train button on the Genie, then press the button on the Homelink, either two or three times without success. I've tried this several times.

What's my next step?

Oops. RTFM. Had to hold the Genie Transmitter up to the Homelink first.

Let us know if it works. I was never able to get it to work on my 2001 RX300. I thought that maybe it was because my garage door opener was very old.

Got it to work. See my previous post.

I replaced the garage door opener about 18 months ago because it was making terrible noises that I couldn't stop with lubricant. Also, the transmitters worked, but the plastic cases were cracked.

The new rolling code Genie Excelerator unit has the modern security and safety features. It's an easy two to three hour job to replace an existing unit.

You got it. I went to the Homelink site because the instructions for wife's Pilot left that step out.
