Can anyone recommend a cheap car insurer for an 18 yr old female.
Forget 'Sheila's wheels', dearest quote so far. Also done tesco, asda, post office , Churchill (best so far).
Not a flash car just a group 4
TIA

I reccomend you shop around. Or buy the 18 year old in question a bike/buspass. (c:
Everyone who reads this group can probably give you names of several insurance companies, but they will probably have absolutely no idea whether the company or companies they suggest will give a competitive quote for the car, circumstances and individual in question.
You could try confused.com. Personally I've never had a competitive quote from them yet, and I've also bettered the confused.com quote by miles (hundreds of pounds) sometimes by speaking to the insurance company directly.
Yellow pages however, can give you the names of a lot of insurance companies. Get quotes, get lots and lots and lots of quotes. It seems like it takes forever but that is how you win.
IMLE the insurance grouping of a car (especially when you are young) makes very little difference to the quotes you get from insurance companies. They are all varying degrees of huge.
My current Group 14 car costs more to insure than my previous group 14 car with the same company, on the same policy with 1 year's extra no claims and me being a year older (still under 25).
And as just to prove your point I got a quote £200 cheaper than the co themselves on a £391 policy from... you guessed it Confused.com
When I asked Norwich Union about it, they looked it up, said umm, and fair play to the lad on the phone said "if I was you id get the one from confused.com"
Tom
And if you were to re-read the post you replied to, you'd realise you actually *disproved* his point.
Lol well I guess I'd did both, when I said I'd proved his point I was referring to the....
bit.
But I see where you are coming from... (and may be taking shelter)
Tom
If you had read the post he replied to you'd realise he reinforced my original point (which you snippled) about how insurance companies give different quotes to different people rather than the part where we shared experiences of one particular website.

Go on, call him a silly sausage!
Strange- my sister found Tesco's over £200 cheaper than the next bed (female only included). Have another word.

You could try bell.co.uk.

Have you tried a local insurance broker? I use mine as he consistantly gets me cheaper quotes than I get from the usual ones.
I got my insurance this year from Highway insurance through A-Quote. They were a lot cheaper than the "brand name" companies - I guess they've got to pay for those big TV advertising campaigns.
What amazes me is that every advert on TV seems to say "We can save you =A3x00 pounds on your car insurance".
In message , xscope writes
Or, rather, they say "98% of people who changed to us saved money".
I doubt many people shop around with the intention of changing to a more expensive policy.
Direct line were cheaper than tesco for me, and were the cheapest until I modified my car, then i had to go to a specialist.
Just left Tesco after a few years when the were way cheaper. This year the RAC beat them by £52.
What amazes me is that every advert on TV seems to say "We can save you £x00 pounds on your car insurance".
I have just entered details for my daughter (18) on Aquote site and for a
1994 1.0 3 door Micra value £800 kept on a driveway the quotes were £1174, £1714 and £2245 for Holdsure Capricorn Zenith resectivly. Way over the odds when Tesco and others feature around £780Gio
I have tried all that have been mentioned and they have ranged from £730 F&T up to £2180 F&T for a 1.4i Citroen zx.
Lowest quote F&T was from Churchill £730, Tesco £840 but I am going to Churchill for £897 Comprehensive for 17yr old female on provisional licence. I just thought that for the extra cost it was worth the extra bit.
But beware all quotes had a £400 excess on them for under 20 yr olds with less than 2 yrs driving experience.
Thanks for your postings they all helped.
160 quid extra for fc, with a 400 quid excess on a car that's probably worth about 400 quid? What's the point? You'll never gain from the fc policy.
cheers, clive
