405 Reverse Light

Jun 29, 2004 3 Replies

Ok guys,

When i put my car into reverse (1993 Mk2 405 GLi 1.6) the reverse lights come on, all well and good, when i lift the clutch however the reverse lights go out, clutch down again, back come the reverse lights.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

The message from "Dan405" contains these words:

At a guess, the cable is routed somewhere near the clutch lever and is fouling. Either that or something's flexing that shouldn't.

Or possibly the reverse light switch fitted to the gearbox is faulty/needing adjustment.

Its possible that you have a dodgy reversev switch. This is located (well on my 94 405td any way) on the gearbox itself. Best thing to do check the connectors on it first as ive been told thats a common problem. i had to replace the switch on mine . for more info go to

andsearch the archives or ask the guys there. the guys there sorted me out but basically its a case of taking all the air pipes out fiddling about with the damm connnector undoing a nut (bloody akward placed one) and replace. If uve got tools (a set of big spanner/sockets 243 ish mmm i think) not a long job.
