Hi I am checking out servicing charges (For a A service, not B) on the Merecedes A160 and found the price the main dealers ask is quite high, between £180-£240. I am told this service is a basic one, oil and filters but seems unreasonable seeing the time they need the vehicle for is just over an hour. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions to do elsewhere for this type of worrk? Thanks snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.co.uk

Welcome to the world of 'prestige car' servicing. That's the price you pay for having the three-pointed-star on your driveway. A few years back the local dealer tried to charge me £95 for checking the tracking (reduced to £45 after an argument). The basic service could be done by more or less any reputable independent workshop, although you might have problems if the car is less than three years old and you subsequently have a warranty claim (Block Exepmtion changes notwithstanding). Bear in mind that there have been a lot of warranty claims for suspension parts and steering columns - so might pay to stay on the 'right side' of your dealer.
Not sure where you are but if you are happy to got to a independant (i.e non dealer) MB specialist
