Another focus question re: battery

focus 1.8 2004 petrol

Some times its a little sluggish to fire up the current battery looks like the original. It takes 1-3 goes usually to get it going. I'm thinking come the cold weather its not going to go well. The specs 12v 65rc 390A 43Ah.

The manual says its needs a calcium based battery, don't quote me was late when I was reading but am sure it said that.

I've pin pointed the bosch s4 which is higher rated, at 60Ah and 540cca so should do a better job and not let me down in the winter or summer with greater demand on stuff more so in winter though. BUT I'm having trouble finding if its a calcium based battery as not to want to upset anything on the car. Can anyone spot if I've missed it somewhere ?

To be fair to the bloke, his questions are quite sensible, and he is keeping usenet alive single handed.

You are going to be spending more money on this car in a month than I've spent on two Focuses in 12 years at this rate!

If it's taking up to three goes to start, but is still turning over, there's likely to be little wrong with the battery. Originals often last

10 or more years. Replace the plugs and leads as discussed in one of your other threads, and see how it starts then.

Before the battery fails to the point it won't start, the dash display normally does funny things when you first turn the ignition on, so you get some early warning.

BTW, it should be replaced with a calcium one; the charging rate is slightly higher than a normal battery, and although statements that using a normal battery might cause it to explode appear exaggerated, they will certainly have a shorter life.

With respect, everything you have asked here has been asked multiple times in the past. Perhaps you are unaware, but everything in Usenet is archived by Google Groups; I don't have a problem with answering the same questions, but you may well get quicker answers by searching the archives.

You may also be unaware that there is a dedicated NG for the Focus; it's alt.autos.ford.focus. It doesn't get much traffic these days ( because the Focus is so reliable), but Googling it will give you much more info than you will ever need.

Where do you think most of the electronics for Ford cars are made?

Halfords do 'calcium' batteries.

Although there's an awful lot of rubbish written about the charging of these.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com (SteveH) saying something like:

This all sounds very familiar. I'm reminded of the bloke with the Cinquecento.

Wonder what became of him? It was funny when he was around.

He was hacked to death by a frustrated Fiat dealer and buried in a pit, which they filled in when they moved to 4 poster lifts instead of pits.
