Hi,

Can anyone tell me the correct timing for a 1994 Astra 1.4?

It'll be set by the computer, surely?

You'd think wouldn't you...

But the distributor is defintely the adjustable type, and has a few marks scratched into it, presumably from previous attempts at setting it.

In that case perhaps trial and error. Starting with 5-10 degress BTDC, or ask in the 'free.uk.cars.vauxhall' n/g which is probably your best bet. Mike.

Always worked for me! Thrash it up a long hill when fully warmed up in high gear. If it pinks, back it off a bit and try again.

You sure you don't mean pings? :-) Mike.

I reckon it should be renamed "McMillaning".

I must be thick. That suggestion has completely escaped me. The only Macmillan I can think of was the PM in the late 50's early 60's.? Mike.

We had/have a bloke called Peter Macmillan who was convinced, /for months/ that his Fiat tiddlysomething was pinking. Went on about it for hundreds of posts.

I remember him. Got Seicento. Just that Macmillan didn't ring any bells. Pinking Peter. The IAM guy with some strange driving ideas. Mike.

there is a little spike by the crank pulley, it lines up with a notch in the pulley when using a strobe at tickover with the vacuum disconnected and plugged.
