Austin Metro Valve Clearance

Oct 19, 2003 3 Replies

I'm going to check the valve clearances on my metro tomorrow. According to the Haynes manual it should be 0.012 in for both inlet and exhaust. Can anyone confirm this is correct for a 998cc A-Plus engine? I thought that exhaust clearance is normally larger than inlet clearance.

David.

IIRC, it's correct for any normal A series engine for road use, They say to increase it to 15 thou for competitions. Just for information for when you take your Metro to a track day.

I have heard of a Lada Samura that sounds a just a tad iffy

I must check it .

Thanks for the reassurance Dave. Just done it now.

5 of them were correct anyway.
