Buy cheap oil and you get cheap oil. Do you value you your cars engine? You can buy cheap shit from Tesco for £2.97 a gallon.
Unless you change your oil every 2000miles though you risk black-Death using this oil... Look for specific recognised standards such as SJ etc... - Look at
He wasn't necessarily looking for cheap oil - more like good oil at reasonable to low prices.
If you can become a member and there is one in your area, I have found that CostCo do reasonable prices on some castrol oils.

I've had cars where the oil was possibly the most valuable part of the whole thing - he may be the same.
What used to be West Midlands Farmers (now the Country Store or summat) sell Q8 oils at very reasonable prices, a gallon of semi synth SJ spec 15W40 is around £8.50.
My present car cost £50. It's done 10,000miles for me and is still going strong because I am willing to pay a massive £10 every 4 to 5000 miles and give it some decent oil.

How sure are you of the "because"?
Good old Castrol GTX, never let me down in a multitude of cars. If your only going to do one bit of maintenance on your car, change the oil and filter.
Thinking of getting a trade membership for CostCo but I do wonder if the whole wholesale business in this country is a bit of a red herring. For instance, I visit a local "trade-only" hardware wholesaler. The prices here are very good as compared to the high street, argos etc but still do not compete with the majority of Ebay traders.
Yup - I'd like this one too. Magantec in 5 gallon drums for the 3 cars have to service would be nice, at present I just grab several canisters off Halfords shelves when they are doing the "but one get on free" and similar offers.
Try your local breakers yard, remember to take your own can and funnel though.
Heh, sounds familiar. My last car leaked oil so fast it was hardly there long enough to tell "good" oil from "bad". I used the cheapest stuff I could get from my local auto spares shop; around £3 a gallon. The engine ran just fine, apart from the black streak on the road that traced my every journey.
Better oil, and a pay-and-display ticket for two hours in Manchester, and I could've doubled the car's value. ;)
Cheers,
Well that ..... and a fair bit of luck too I'd wager.
You may laugh but a friend's father works in a scrappies and they often find part used cans of oil in the back of cars. That and the petrol they empty out of the tanks does have some small impact on their cost of motoring.
A friend used to put a drip tray under his car if he stopped for more than
30 min then poured the stuff back into the top of the engine."gazzafield"
I use Tesco 10/40 oil @ £5.98 a tub. The engine's done over 140k and burns a fair bit of oil so ain't worth anything better. The really cheap stuff is usually 20/50 and too thick for my car otherwise I'd bang that in. Does anyone know a cheaper place for 10/40?
Mark ( snipped-for-privacy@invalidaddress.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
If it's that foooked, I can't imagine the difference between 10/40 and
20/50 will be important. With a few notable exceptions (wasn't it Ford Zetecs?), I don't think it's massively vital anyway - and I know for a fact that many smaller garages just have one bulk oil tank...
I tried the 20/50 stuff and also Castrol GTX High Mileage oil but it causes sticky valves. It's a Daewoo Nexia and should use semi-synthetic
10/40, but given that it's about 1 MOT away from the scrap yard it just isn't worth pouring good expensive oil into the beast. It's runs quite nicely on Tesco 10/40 - although their oil does pong a bit!
Buy a decent oil in bulk - say 25 gallon drums. From a good motor factor.
