I've just replaces a busted cambelt on a 1992 Clio, 1171cc 8V engine. Is it likely that the valves have hit the piston on this type of engine ("E" series)? All seems to turn Ok now the new belt is on.

start it up, if it runs on all cylinders then the valves are ok.
and yes, this is an engine which is "most likely" to bend things when the belt goes.
