I doubt the 10 years has been tested properly yet.
It's age more than mileage that tends to go against cambelts.
The dealers are a bit crap, yes. We run a mainly VW fleet with very few issues. AFAIK there's not been a single breakdown of the new Passats after 12 months / 30k miles on average.
The interiors will fall apart before they reach 50k miles, though if the C-Max I had a few weeks ago was anything to go by.
