Converting Transit to standard ignition

Hi folks.

I am after a cheap way to convert my PATS equipped transit to a standard ignition lock. I have only one key and its not the master, hence i would like a cheap and easy way to convert it.

Is there an easy way to bypass the PATS. I have several keys the same cut, but only 1 transponder key.

Its a 1996 standard transit. Security not an issue.

TIA

John

Just tape the transponder key to the lock barrel inside the cowling.

You can get transponder keys cut relatively cheaply at decent locksmiths. £10 or £15 a time IIRC. You ideally need 3 though (so you can still programme another if you lose one).

The problem is I would like to change the ignition barrel as well. But the normal ones are cheaper, I was hoping someone would have a join that wire to that wire solution. :-)

It shouldn't be too hard to tell which bit of the current barrel is the aerial. Then you could probably hack it away from the barrel and cable-tie it up inside the column with the old key.

Cheers,

Colin.

Round the neck fo the barrel is a coil. Prise this off, tape the old transponder key to it and do whatever you like with the barrel.

At least - that's how I'd have done it to the last one I looked at. Yours may differ.
