Corsa Sump Removal

Angle Grinder.

Spanner? Open-ended, ring, off-set ?

There is no need for an angle grinder as the bolt is alright. I just need a suitable tool probably a socket to take it out but the 1/4 inch drive and 3/8 inch drive 10 mm socket does not sit on the top of the bolt due to space issues between the flywheel and the sump. I have tried a spanner. That will not do the job either. I am sure someone who has done a corsa sump before will know which bolt I mean. Cheers.

IIRC I used a snap on quarter drive socket with a wobble extension bar or two.

The bell housing blanking plate been removed. I have got some universal joints and different size extension bars on a 1/4 drive. Will give that a try later. It also might be that the socket I am using is a cheap one. All my 3/8 sockets are decent but never did get round to getting decent 1/4 sockets.

Now you mention it the socket does seem to have rather a thick wall. As I don't have a grinder I guess I better go out and get a half decent 10 mm socket. I will take the cheap one with me to make sure that the wall is not as thick

Sometimes a cheapy set from a pound shop or aldi will have a sensible configuration (single hex and/or thin wall), even though I have loads of good tools I still look at stuff like that 'just in case'

I have ordered a 10 mm socket from my local car parts place. They confirmed that the wall on the socket will be thinner than the one on the cheap socket I have

I got a set from Halfrauds I think it goes up in 1mm increments from 5mm -

I use them accompanied with the Halfrauds small extension bar kit which has the funny shaped driving end to allow them to be used at an angle. Gets into allsorts of tight spots... Getting me out of them :-P

The engine on a Corsa is so small you could try training some mice to help you with the bolts, they make excellent mechanics on tiny little Corsa engines. The engine in a Corsa is so small that mice tower above it, so its easy for them. Of course, if you want to get more BHP, MPH, etc from a Corsa, then consider asking the mice to fashion you a new bigger engine, you know, like they have in real cars.
