Crank bolt....(stuck..)

Just have to make sure you are coming up to TDC on firing stroke and not TDC for inlet exhaust overlap.

Update.

He drove it home this evening (not arrived yet mind.....)

Compared to my 214si the 416si bay is a right pain. There is an extra plate mounted on the engine mount that looks like it just stops engine rocking rather than weight bears. Seven extra bolts to extract, all corroded, all tight, no space and impossible to hit with a hammer. After getting two out I managed to drop the engine three inches improving access and then was able to educate them with a geology hammer and a copper drift. All went back with copious amounts of copperslip.

Crowning glory was the 8mm hex bit from Halfords bought to get the tensioner off. (I have a 7mm and a 9mm....*sigh*) First one took about

20ftlb and shattered sticking sharp bits of steel everywhere. I thought the bolt had gone and nearly kacked myself. Back to Halfords for a word and the parts guy couldn't beleive it. Replacement one was fine - gave it plenty of weight undoing it.

Water pump, cambelt, tensioner, alternator and PAS belt - £70

Garage quoted him £300 just for a waterpump fitted.

He now appreciates why labour can be a big factor and why proper tooling is essential. When I finally get a garage I really want some air tools!

Thanks to all who replied and emailed.

It's got about a 20% mix from what was left in the block and his remaning small amount. (I only had HOAT and his is a glycol system) Assuming it doesn't leak any more I'll be flushing and filling it next weekend......:-)
