Does a replacement engine count as modified for insurance?

In the past I've sometimes "forgotten" to tell insurance companies about non-obvious modifications, like minor tuning. Don't think it's worth the risk these days though, if it ever was.

That's what I was thinking ;)

Well that's not quite accurate, because the Escort TDi had the 88 / 90 PS intercooled 1.8 turbodiesel, it was the TD that had the non-intercooled 1.8

70 PS engine. The Mondeo only used the intercooled turbodiesel.

Are you sure? One 1.9 TDI isn't always the same as the next one...

Strictly speaking, yes that's a modification, but providing the engine is of the same specification it shouldn't be an issue. The 1.8 Zetec-E is a good example of this because there are three versions of the 1.8 Zetec-E - 105 PS, 115 PS and 130 PS. Swapping the Fiesta XR2i's 105 PS engine for the 130 PS version as used in the RS1800 would be a modification (or putting that

130 PS donk into a Mondeo, say).
