What the heck is this "Emergency Fuel" stuff? I was browsing the carsection of my local cash & carry and noticed a 1 litre size yellowcontainer called Emergency Fuel. It says it can safely be stored in theboot of your car and if you run out of fuel just add it to your tankwhich will allow you to get to the nearest filling station. It alsosays not to be used to start a cold engine but simply add it to yourtank if you run out of petrol! Anyone know what this stuff is?

It is a low flammability, long life fuel.MrCheerful

years ago as a very poor student I would often top up my tank with thepetrolI kept in a can after a couple of years - big problem with varnish(?) on thevalves

You have to remember to switch back before you stopped the engine otherwise it's a nightmare to start with a carb full of TVO...

Fortunately, the float bowl had a thumbscrew on the bottom, for just this situation!

You'd unscrew it, and remove the float-bowl, tip out the contents, replace, refill, and pray to the gods that you had enough juice in the battery to turn it over until the petrol got in!
