Fiesta Zetec 1.25.. Using a lot of Oil

I know the bottom pulley can be a bitch but the lack of timing marks isn't a big problem IMO. Its quite easy to make a TDC pin from a M10 bolt ground to the correct length and I'm assuming that there is slot on the other end of the camshafts like the 1.4 and 1.6 engines for putting the cams in their correct position.

The lack of timing marks would be frightening to a beginner.

The special bolt and the flat plate are only a fiver from a car shop.

Ford engines are usually dirt cheap. Probably get a short block for naff all.

How much new engine?

A friend of mine says that some ford engines are now not designed to be repaired...

Cambelt snapped sir... That'll be a new engine....

ISTBC but I think he was refereing to the 2.0L Lump in rep mobiles.

Tom

When I had a Ka, parts plus came up with about £300 or so plus VAT for a new lump. A much simpler lump though.

Not with the amount of oil the OP is 'loosing'.

As long as they make sure its the correct bolt. They are all the same thread but the length varies between different Ford engines. I've know a garage to use the wrong pin and time the engine wrong. It was the 1.8TD so the injection pump was timed wrongly too. It ran but not too well.

If you assume he means a full min->max topup then its not rings or seals, its a leak, or he'd be leaving death and destruction in a smoke cloud all day long. If he just means adding 1/4 of a dipstick or so then it could be seals, this is exactly the scenario i had with an old peugeot engine when two of the exhaust seals died, doing 50 miles a day.

Keyless sprockets - absolutely rediculous idea. Did a megane engine with them, used all the locking keys and pins as per instructions and still ended up out of whack, eventually did it using the tools as I thought necessary and it worked fine. The instructions said you shouldnt use the locking pin while torquing the pulley, which meant the pulley rotated with belt stretch and left it out of whack. Leaving the locking pin in (against instructions) worked ok. If it wasnt for the silly instructions it wuold be fairly straight forward, but whats wrong with keys eh...eh...eh.... (yeah i know, stress raiser, assembly time etc)

Yes, I have done, but wasn't thinking logically. It was 3 years ago and I've done umpteen belts on Vauxhalls since then which have the pump on the cam belt.

Asking round, not many people have changed a water pump on these. So they must be good !!
