Fitting new cabrio roof (am I mad ?)

Apr 19, 2005 2 Replies

In a fit of enthusiasm, I just bought a replacement roof for my 94(L) Mk3 Golf Cabrio - not the frame, just the vinyl bit.

The plan is to fit it myself (well, with a little amateur help).

Chilton's workshop manual says leave it to the experts...but my local dealer wants 600 quid to do the job !

Has anyone experience with fitting one of these roofs ? Am I mad ?

Cheers

Nick

Try a few VW specialist breakers yards to see if they have a good condition roof on it's frame as a complete assembly.

I went down this road with my MkI Cabrio - complete roof cost me £200 and took about 3-4 hours to fit with a little help from my wife.

Not with a Mk3 golf but on an old KG, with the help of a local interior trimming place it took about a day and a lot of swearing that said also did an MGB that wasn't anywhere near as bad.
