Focus noises/problems

I have a 1.8TDDI Focus-UK and its 2years old-so still under warranty. Two problems, which Fords seem unwilling to recognise and hence repair- any ideas.

  1. After running for a few miles I can hear a "low pitched whisle", this can be heard more when the car comes to rest. It isnt constant but comes in 2/3 "waves" 10 seconds apart and then stops. Drive away and it starts again. I have had Fan belt replaced!
  2. Gears have become very clanky especially between 2nd/3rd. They have looked at this and said they have adjusted "gear Linkage". Still their- Should I pursue ? This clanky resistance is not always present. Thanks - I want to book it in again armed with some technical backup!

The focus has an inherent problem with the gear linkage spring. This is fitted at the bottom of the gearstick, has 2 legs on it, and holds the stick in a neutral position at rest......one of the legs breaks off the spring... I have replaced loads of them.... i will post the part no of it in the morning as i keep a couple of them in the workshop. The whistling noise may be coming from the radio speakers !!!!! saw a couple of them doing this and took me fuc***g ages to figure it out.... extract the radio and un-plug the speakers and try it....... even with the radio off it can generate a signal through the speakers.... requires radio replacement if this is the cause. I do a lot of work for the local ford guys and see a lot of those problems.....
