Ford focus door mirror question

Hi,

One of the wing mirrors on my ford focus has been kicked off. It's totally wrecked and will need replaced. I will take it into a garage later in the week to get a new one.

In the mean time I feel a bit silly asking this but how do I remove it?

It's currently hanging by some metal cables that seem to attach the mirror to the adjuster in the car. I don't want to give them a yank in case I break something else but I can't just leave it there because it will swing about if I try to drive anywhere and probably make a nice mess of my paint-work into the bargain. The mounting is also broken so there's no way of keeping it attached to the car.

The car is the pre 2004 model, and the mirror is the manual unheated version.

Also, any idea what I will be charged for the repair?

Thanks, Ivan

Far too much. Main dealer price for the mirror and an hour or two labour.

The mirror is usually held in place by two or three bolts accessed from the trim on the inside. The adjuster is part of the mirror and the "knob" is usually held in with a couple of screws but the door card will have to come off to access it. As a DIY job it's an hour at worst.

Conor ( snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

If the adjuster wires are part of the mirror, then there's an easy solution to the OP's "How do I remove?" question... a pair of wire snips.

Welcome to the club :( I've had mine kicked off 5 times now !! Get yourself one on Ebay and replace it yourself This will show you how to remove and replace

Thanks for the replies guys. It sounds like the garage option will be a rip-off and it doesn't look that difficult a job so I'll have a go myself.

I'll snip the current mirror off with the wire snips and get a new one off ebay.

What is it with drunken students and wing mirrors? I have had mine kicked off quite a few times but on the other occasions I was able to click them back together, no such luck this time.
