Not 'snob' attitude - just an aversion to the heaps of crap Ford still punt out whilst the rest of the world has moved on.

I mean, MkIII Mondeos with rust issues? - that's shocking, given that everyone bar Mercedes fixed their rust protection in the 90s.

Pumas have all but rotted away and I'm seeing the MkI Focus going the same way.

Oh, and the poor excuse for an engine fitted to the MkII Focus 1.6TDCI is just laughable - f*ck all power, no torque and 38mpg.

Not to mention the interior that looked and felt like someone said 'I want a Golf interior, but your budget to make it is £2.50'.

Don't even think about saying 'but they drive / handle / ride well' - because, really, they don't - everything is remote, rubbery, over-damped

- especially the steering, which has 3 settings - too heavy, is this connected to the front wheels?, and comedy 1970s American cop show.

Had a new Fiesta 1.4TDCI hire car last year, too - rubbish engine, and the strangest dash I've ever seen - looked like it was designed by Nokia in their 'wacky' phase of about 8 years ago.

All in your "humble" opinion, of course?

I'm not obsessed by interiors and quality, and didn't even bother looking at heavy lardy overpriced tubs, but the Focus LX / Edge / Flight were underwhelming and the 1.6 engine just adequate. And they didn't seem particularly cheap if you compare them with French or Far Eastern rather than VAGs

You cheeky young whippersnapper! Of course she has. She loves it and young Mr P loves it too as he sits much more upright and can see out properly :-)

I really, honestly, don't know. I can tell you my Discovery's consumption to the nearest 0.1 mpg, but I've never measured the TVR and likely never will. At a guess, single figures, given that the majority of the miles it covers are either track days, speed hillclimbs or rather spirited "drives out";

It does do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and 160mph, though. :o)
