In article , Fred of Colway, everyday at least 1 customer will ask me if an unknown brand
But the vast majority of Colway customers bought mail order.
Remember, both Fred and his customers know all about remoulds because they saw something about them falling apart on 'That's Life' in 1979.
Fred ("Fred" My tyres will last a lot longer than Colway remoulds though, colway are
I wouldn't touch remoulds, either.
Or , I could have taken over a bankrupt Colway dealer arounrd 1999, the same dealer who used to supply Colway with casings. The company was called "The Tyre Warehouse" and used to supply many 40' lorry loads of tyres to Colway, I worked next door to them for 7 years and watched them grade thousands of
***Qualiy*** Scrap casings. So as per usual dopey you are talking out of your arse.
The only thing that Colway made worth using was 4x4 *Off Road*tyres, but then along came Insa Turbo and put the final nail in the coffin.
Fred ("Fred"
Maybe there are other sources?
Fred ) gurgled happily, sounding much like
Pirelli, then.
Yes, they do make specialist rally tyres, but they're an order of magnitude more expensive than Colways, which were very popular amateur rally drivers.

Fred seems to have missed the word "about" in my post.
Well, obviously - he's also missed the bit about the Evo running on Pirellis, 'cos the series is sponsored by a maker of shonky teflon s**te.

Had to happen eventually, I suppose ;-)
Champ agreed with me the other day, and now you.
Accompanied by the sound of a chisel on slate Adrian, managed to produce the following words of wisdom
I used to use Michelins on ye olde rally car, but agree wholeheartedly with Steve H about Colways being pretty decent nowadays.
Fred seems to have swallowed his copy of Tyre Trader and is just regurgitating crap.

Bwahahaha. I only bothered with a quick scan of that article, and I saw that the Evo was on Pirellis - but missed the series sponsor...
S'nuffink to do with VWs, see :-p
The person supplying the carcasses doesn't do the grading or checking. The factory does. They were probably pulling your plonker - telling you they were selling scrap while you had to pay to get rid of it.
Fred was paying to get rid of his worn tyres because, ISTR, Colway never used the carcasses from Woosung Dark Roadstone Horse Ultimates.
The initial grading is done by the supplier to Colway, from memory there was only a small percentage rejected by Colway. Any tyres rejected by Colway were deducted from the money paid for the ones they kept, so tyres are graded before they are sent to Colway. Before I took over the Tyre Warehouse I had nothing to do with tyres, they used to collect casings from Bristol down to Plymouth, and sell some for export some to Colway and some as Partworn. Colway sent out a request list of sizes required and would not collect unless you could supply an artic load of mixed required sizes, back then Colway were paying over £10 for Metric and £6 for London cab tyres.

Now where have I seen that before?
