it is an all day job so say 8 hours at 60 quid is 480 plus about 200 quids of bits so a start idea of 680. you really need to find a small specialist and ask them.
thanks, at least it gives me some idea.
Waiting for a price off specialist engine repairer, but he wouldn't even give me a figure until he has priced the parts.
More than the car is worth.
Fair enough really. It's a fairly unusual car - if it were Ford with a common engine, he'd probably know parts prices off the top of his head, whereas with far eastern stuff, parts prices can be horrific and him saying "probably £200 worth of parts" and then finding out that head kit is £400 probably won't make you very happy.
Got my price today, £690. this includes changing cambelt at same time, so not a bad price really as cambelt kit alone is £125.
Just got a call to say head is cracked. Bill now up to £1700.
this is why it is getting rare to actually change a head gasket nowadays, I have seen a lot of cars scrapped simply because of a blown head gasket.
sourcing a good secondhand engine (or complete car or damaged car) would be cheaper in your case
