Can't guess, crikey... improvise?
Thank you Mr. King, for your munificent elucidation.

Superb answer

I wouldn't go anywhere somewhere that changes oil & filter for =A310.
A decent quality semi-synthetic costs more than that and I would always use a genuine manufacturer's oil filter.
I would also always take my car to either a manufucaturer approved garage or someone who knows something about that make. They will know what to look for and should identify problems and work required before it gets serious or dangerous.
Added to that the only way they can make a profit at =A310 must be to find other work at the same time!
Alan.
All Astras have had 20,000/1 year intervals for ages.
The current 2004 shape was launched with 20,000/2 year interval but that has been dropped back to 20,000/1 year again because so many people were confused by the flexible interval.
The only recent exceptions to my knowledge were Frontera which were
10,000 (I think) and certain diesels which are 30,000 if you use very high spec fully synthetic oil.Alan
What is? What was the question?

And the Monaro.
Like the Astra diesel. My apologies - it's a case of the Ashtray Diseasel being 30k/2yr vs 20k/1yr for the Petrol - not the 20k/10k I suggested.
Take the manufacturers recommended interval, divide by 2 and use that.
Max 6 months if used mainly for short journeys around town - with fresh oil at the start and end of the winter period (eg Oct - March)
It is a whole system, one part of which would not work without the other. Next advance will be easier. There are plenty of oils out there that are actually capable of almost indefinite use given efficient filtration. Certainly 100,000 miles should be no problem for the best oils currently available and it is the engine systems which now hold things back.
That and public attitude as seen here.

And it happens to be correct.

I always thought that more posters here were tech savvy. Oh well.

Ever wondered why and what has changed over the years? And I can assure you that engines and transmission actually do run-in but require what amounts to less care in doing so.

Thank you. And to those that still think fleets and the manufacturers somehow don't care if the cars are worn out when they are sold at moderate mileage, the reputation of a car has a great bearing on the diposal [at a sale] value and the depreciation has a significant cost for those fleets that change vehicles fairly regularly. For those that don't change, a long and trouble free life is just as important. Hence todays engines generally last longer and with fewer problems than ever before despite the service intervals and the build complexity.
