A work colleague described to me how he's spent ages trying to fit a silicon pipe to his Subaru, it's the pipe between the turbo and inlet manifold and he's having severe problems making it go on.
Is there a knack to it?

Assuming it's actually the right size, washing up liquid smeared on the inside.
Or silicone grease if he intends removing it in the future.
