Magneti Marelli starter

Jul 17, 2004 3 Replies

I have a kit-car (Rover K-series 1.6 engine/special bellhousing/Ford 3-rail gearbox). It has a Magneti Marelli starter, part no 27048A, dated 1996. I have Googled all over the place without success to identify what car this was/is originally fitted to, so I can check scrap-yards. Can anyone tell me the source?

27049A starter ex-Transit van is identical except for pinion (9-tooth).

Is it possible to get just the pinion (10 tooth) - if so, where from? Local motor factors can't/won't help.

go straight to a rebuilder, there is usually one every few miles if you look around.

It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "mike" saying something like:

Try Yellow Pages for your nearest Lucas depot. If they can't do it, they will probably know who can.

Any decent autoelec should be able to get you a 10 tooth Marelli pinion. Any Transit starters that I've come across have a 13 tooth pinion; are you sure it's a Transit starter.
