Perhaps someone here can say why you shouldn't just add a couple of gallons of clean engine oil to increase lubricity and cetane number?
pull the pipes off and lightly pressurize the tank through the return, the fuel will flow from the other pipe. fill with diesel and bleed the system

Personally, I'd just get a syphon pump and pump out as much as possible through the filler, then immediately fill with fresh derv. That will get enough out for it not to be a problem when mixed with a full tank of fresh derv.
Syphon pump??? Length of pipe, preferably clear plastic, and a good suck (hence the clear plastic) should start the process nicely. Never have tasted a diesel/petrol mix.... might be tolerable - the greasy texture of the diesel might dilute the petrol so it wouldn't be quite as tangy.
Except of course for the fact that the vast majority of cars have anti-syphon fillers, preventing you getting the fuel out like that.
Remove back seats, and lift sender out of tank to get access to syphon it out.
The problem with this is that many fuel tanks (my Rover 75 is a prime example) are 'saddle-bag' tanks - ie they straddle the centre tunnel of the car and hence draining one 'side' will still leave a lot of fuel in the other side. Modern high pressure diesel pumps, operating at high speed, will become damaged very rapidly if they are not constantly lubricated by diesel fuel passing through them. The HP fuel pump on my car was replaced recently under warranty (not through petrol contamination I hasten to add!) and the dealership advised me that it cost £1,500 - plus a full day's labour to replace. Proper and full draining is the only answer to ensure no very costly repair bills!

A couple of gallons is a heck of a lot of oil to add to a tankful of diesel. It'd smoke dreadfully and smell foul.
They will claim for any payment they can from the warranty company - which is why it costs so much and took so long. They usually have a book that gives an estimated repair time.
