Ford Tyoe 5 to either Type 9 or MT75

I am thinking of replacing my 4 speed gearbox with a 5 speed as I need overdrive 5th. I know I can fit a type 9 as this should bolt onto my Essex V6 using the existing bell housing but can I fit the MT75 as it looks from what I can find as the bell housing is integral but is the input shaft length and the bolt fixing the same. As this gearbox is normally attached to either the pinto or zetech.

What gearbox do you currently have?

Cable or hydraulic clutch?

Most of the Essex-to-5-speed conversiond I've heard of make use of the cast alloy bellhousing from "Flowtech" or similar; it's also rumoured that you can use the bellhousing from a

2.5-litre Essex-powered Mk.1 Granada [if you can find one that is].

Alternatively - given the Type-9's known layshaft weaknesses, have you thought about using a Borg-Warner T5 box [as fitted to RWD Sierra Cosworths] instead?

try finding a 2wd V6 mt75 box then there was one on eBay a few days ago, but I don't know if it's still there or not

you will also need the clutch and starter and prop if you want to do this conversion though (and box mount)

or get a xr4x4 type9 box and replace the back end with a normal sierra tail bit.

"PJML"

The ford Type 5 with the 3 side levers strong box but slow on the change and no 5th

Cable clutch

Do Flowtech still make this bellhousing although I am trying to do this on a budget as the kit car is not worth much more.

These are hard to find now at a reasonable price.
