Mondeo vibrations

Hi,



I've got a W reg mk2 petrol Mondeo which has done about 74K and i'm having a problem with the car vibrating at speed.



Driving around town seems fine; however, get on the motorway and it's a different story. At about 70 you can feel the steering wheel vibrating, at



80 its even more severe and as you get faster the dash starts to shake! The faster you go the worse it gets.

Also, if you brake quickly from motorway speeds down to a stop (like when you're exiting the motorway to stop/slow for the junction) the steering wheel vibrates severely again.



I've had all 4 wheels balanced, and then checked by a different garage so I know it's not that. I've also had the tracking done recently and that made no difference. All wheels appear to be in good condition and I've swapped the fronts with the rears and vice versa.



Has anyone any suggestions what could be causing this and whether it is a common Mondeo issue?

warped and need replacing, Regarding the vibration through the car normally if u can feel it through the car it's rear wheel's that are out of balance,are the tyres/wheels ok? Check all suspension,top/bottom of front wheels when you've jacked them up. Common faults are front snapped springs and drop links. Any knocking noises coming from the front/back?

I had an XR2 (blush) way back and it had some similar symptoms re shaking at speed etc. After I had the wheels all checked / changed I had the car in at a neighbours garage on a totally different matter and he reckoned the chassis was misaligned. After careful inspection we could see it had been involved in some repair work. Even although the AA report stated otherwise. But that is a different story.
