Movano engine

Does anyone know if the 2.5 diesel fitted to an 05 plate Vauxhall Movano (rebadged Renault?) is common with other vehicles?

Our crewbus has thrown a rod through the block and secondhand engines seem difficult to find.

It was ex AMECH Rail and had a sticker saying "do not exceed 159,000miles", guess what the mileage was when it blew...

Err no it's not. Purely Renault and a member of the G9 family (in this case it'll be a G9U) followed by 3 numbers which depicts fuel system and output.

It's a wonder it got to 150k to be honest. They usually blow up before this, or die due to electrical problems.

Regardless, hardly a good track record. All French and Italian stuff seems crap to me.

And Fiat pioneered the modern common rail diesel engines

Sorry - that's bollocks.

They're rebuilding them - which doesn't solve the problem, just stores it up to happen again in the future.

Indeed they have, but a new engine is still an option if you lean on them. Of course a man-in-the-trade's amount of lean is often more than a customer's lean.

They've also produced some right pieces of shit.

I cant think of any decent Italian diesels. Without exception, ALL the VM's have serious shortcommings, perhaps the Alfa 2.4 5 pot was half decent.

PSA's XUD 1.9 is probably the best thing to come out of France. Later hdi's are mechanically good, just the electrics let them down, and the stupid rubber crank pulley...

Aside from the millions of JTD and derivative lumps out there doing sterling service?

(They crop up all over the place - Fiat/Alfa/Lancia/Vauxhall/Saab etc)

The irony is that the 5-pot is possibly the one to avoid as it's too bloody thirsty.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree.....

My 306 XUD blew the HG at 47k, whereas my old 206 HDi is still going at 170k with never a beat missed - although the odd occurrence of all the warning lights flashing simultaneously bears testimony to your comments on the electrics. I always assumed it was a dodgy earth somewhere, but it rarely happened and only ever lasted a second or two so I never bothered about it. The "new" owner (a work colleague) tells me it still does it!
