From an independant source, I've also heard that certainly the DMF's in the tranny's is what causes the gearbox to go bang, as they somehow transmit /amplify nasty harmonics / vibrations into the gearbox instead of cancelling them out. So whilst you dont hear or feel the vibration, the gearbox is getting it worse than with an ordinary steel flywheel.

I have a 2.0 estate. I keep waiting for all the disasters to start, but in the last two years, apart from fluids, tyres, and brakes, it has cost me around 50 pounds.
27 quid for a set of wheel trims (that's the Ford price for a set, not for one) cos somebody nicked them,
9 for a headlight bulb, and 12 for a steel water pipe under the engine that the MOT man broke last year.
Shocking.
It passed an MOT today, and I believe it still has the original factory exhaust, because apart from having the ford logo on the boxes, it is all one piece after the cat, and you couldn't fit it without taking the rear suspension off. The service system comes in separate bits.
Not bad for a 1997 car after 130,000.
