OBD car diagnostic software

depends on what vehicle you have, most of our diagnostic stuff is handheld except the VAG com system we have which is laptop based.

I eventually plumped for a handheld unit from the US, as seen on Ebay, bright Orange in colour with two buttons to control the box. Does everyting I wanted and cheap at £30.

A lot of OBD1 vehicles have an inbuilt code reading system. Some OBDIIs do too. Name that car.

Assuming a 1.6 engine there, (Y16XE?), you need to turn off the ignition, bridge pin 6 on the Data Link Connector to earth, switch the ignition on, count the flashes which come in four groups (thousands, hundreds, tens, units).

Compare the code with the table of codes (easily found on the www).

Note: not all cars have pin 6. If no pin 6, you need a fault code reader.

BTW your sig is broke -

the "dash dash space return" at the top of this bit ...

...cuts it off from replies, which is a bit silly when the sig appears at the top of the message...

looks as though i need a fault code reader as mine has no pin 6 :( wico has told me it costs £100 to buy one ...

Yes, I had that trouble with the Omega too. Which is when I found the nice local auto-sparky!
