Why won't my omega deadlock itself on a second press of the remote button. It will lock and arm the alarm on th first press.

Mine once did this when the rear screen heater light didn't go out. I opened the door and pressed the button again and it went out and then it deadlocked. It did this fairly soon after I got the car and hasn't done it since in just over seven years.
The other thing that I've seen cause it is if I leave the key in when I get out, for instance to check the indicators. If I then open the passenger door and turn the ignition off and remove the key from that side it doesn't deadlock either. Presumably it thinks the driver is still sitting in the car. Does the interior light come on when you open the drivers door? Maybe the switch has failed.
