OT - Price for Ford Focus

I have been looking for a Focus and fancy the Ford Focus Estate 1.5 EcoBoost Titanium Navigation. Where can I find a guide price for this car say 2 years old and low mileage, so I know how much I'm actually being ripped off by at the garage? As this is hypothetical, I don't have a reg number to enter into a web site at this time.

When buying cars I saw that an MOT was suggested as a good way to get a reasonable idea of the state of the vehicle.

2 year old cars don't qualify, but is a garage likely to do one anyone if asked nicely?

Thanks

Phil

Thanks Mr C

I've tried all sorts of search criteria, but don't seem to find the models you are seeing. The 12k gives me a start though.

2015, ford, focus, petrol, engine between 1.4 and 1.6, body type estate, keyword ecoboost. 12k was about the lowest, there are lots of variations in equipment, mileage etc.

Prices will vary by a significant amount depending on where you are buying. Private? Small independent? Large independent? Main dealer? There will also be some variation in where in the country you are.

For a car of that age, I personally would use a main dealer. You should get the remaining part of the three year warranty by doing that. If that puts the price too high, I would next look for a small independent that has been trading for a long time.

Forget an MOT. A car of that age might need tyres, or have a bulb out, but is very unlikely to have anything else wrong that would show up in an MOT.

I thought the warranty would still run regardless of the seller, provided that it has whatever requirements met.

Possibly related, I had a 2 year old Mazda a while back bought from a car supermarket, which didn't have a required 500 mile oil change (didn't notice when I bought it, duh). I took it to a main dealer for something trivial and they fixed a gearbox oil leak FOC - took them a week. They said had it been anything related to the lack of service they wouldn't have done it.

Not necessarily. At one time, Ford and others only offered a one year maker's warranty. The dealer then offered a further two years, giving the three years that is now considered the industry minimum.

There were all sorts of caveats to the dealer's part of the warranty, including limitations on subsequent sales.

That may have changed, but limited checking seems to indicate it still applies.

Ford's "Service Portfolio" makes clear the 3 year/60,000 mile base/paint warranties "are Manufacturer?s Warranties that supplement and do not affect your legal rights under the vehicle purchase agreement with your selling Ford Authorised Dealer" and are "regardless of any change of vehicle ownership during the Warranty period."

I did see that the DPF and other filters were treated as a "wear and tear" item and only covered for a year but didn't see anything about ECUs.
