radio code

Hello Had to recently, for the for time, replace the battery in my 1992 Peugeot

205 and after fitting the new one, the radio now requires a code which I cannot find on any of the documents I got when I bought the car 5 years ago. The Peugeot dealer I rang said it was a fee of £17 if I took the car/proof of ownership into a dealership. Is this the only option? Seems a bit rich to have to pay for something that could be avoided if I had been given a code when I bought the car...........

Any ideas appreciated Tim

Afraid so. Either Pug dealer or local Car Hifi shop.

It's hardly Peugeot's fault that the previous owner didn't pass on the security code is it?

Making sure you obtain, and keep, the code is one of those things that one needs to learn to do as part of modern life.

Rover dealers now keep the security code on computer and any dealer can access the service history and security code of any recent car. I don't know if they would charge for supplying it.

=============== A local Hi-Fi shop quoted me £8-00p to do the job - discover and supply the code and re-set it. It might not be available from every shop but shopping around should save you should save you a few £s.

A longshot perhaps but have you checked the radio itself to make sure that it`s not written down anywhere on it`s case?

If you can take the set out I may be able to help you. Let me know the model number as it will probably be a Clarion based unit. Possibly a 9700IG or similar.
